“Cashman’s art contents itself with beginning to conjure up some of the sensation of being in a landscape, the sensations of apprehending space in general” Luke Clancy

My work is conceived of a desire to consider the landscape around us and to look at the world anew, and to challenge our individual perceptions and perspectives.

‘A Portrait of a Landscape’ (Connemara Weather Eye - 2009) was a sustained character study of a landscape, the cycles of the seasons, tides and other ephemera. The nature of the Connemara landscape is that it is always changing.

In the depth of winter when the light is low, the trees are bare; it is difficult to imagine the summer conditions of intense light, warm days, and greenery all around. At the same time every day, I photographed the same scenes for an entire calendar year. It was a consolidated project in breadth and scope. Please see the catalogue or the results of this project via the link below.

The project was about looking at the landscape and our experience of perception in the now, but also about imagining the future, and now the body of work is an historical record so is also about memory and recall. With my work I am interested in how we perceive landscape; I also hope to challenge our imagination and perception. There are a number of way in which I intend to show the work, please contact for more details.
